Vision. A God-given vision is a powerful thing.

A lot of people mistake goal setting for vision. There’s nothing wrong with having goals, but a vision is not a goal that you set in your carnal mind.

A true vision originates from God. It’s something that God puts in your spirit.

Vision is something that the Holy Spirit deposits into you and says, “This is the highest you! This is what I see you doing. This is My call and My dream and My vision for your life.”

And it’s always bigger than what you think you can do. It’s always greater than your ability to perform it without the power of the Holy Spirit.

Many of us come to a place in life where we’re unsure, and we begin to question, “Is it ever going to happen?” You begin hoping, wishing, praying, “Lord, I just want it to happen.”

But you must move from the place of hoping to the place of believing. When you go from hoping it will happen to believing it will happen, your faith takes a quantum leap, and you KNOW God’s going to do it!

In your spirit, you realize you’re about to step into something beyond yourself.

What is your vision?

What is it you’re believing God for? Is there something you’ve prayed for in secret because you couldn’t work up the courage to even tell someone?

I want to challenge you to believe that all things are possible. Place that dream before the Lord and allow Him to take that dream and shape it in to something amazing.

Belief is the key.

Think About It

  1. What makes your heart beat faster?
  2. Is there a vision the Lord has shown you?
  3. What would you attempt if you could not fail?

Sunday Inspiration: How to Get a Vision for Your Future

“Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith.” Hebrews 12:2 KJV

A vision is a picture of what “can be” rather than “what is”.

Your vision may be to bring health where there is sickness – like the vision Albert Schweitzer had for Africa. Or of education where there’s ignorance – like the one that motivated Gilbert Tennent to help establish Princeton University.

It may be a vision of freedom where there’s oppression – like the one that made William Wilberforce give up a life of privilege to eradicate slavery.

Or your vision may be smaller and simpler – like being the first one in your family to graduate from university, or becoming a great parent to your child even though you yourself never had one.

Or breaking a bad habit before it breaks you…or moving to a different country…or spending your t most-productive years traveling the world.

Thoreau said,

“If you’ve built castles in the air…put foundations under them.”

But having a vision isn’t enough; there has to be a commitment to act on it. That’s called a mission – and it requires setting specific, measurable steps to achieve it.

Those steps are called goals; they establish a plan for accomplishing your mission and thus fulfilling your vision.

You’ll generally have one vision, but many goals. And each goal you reach brings you a step closer to fulfilling your vision.

And here’s the really good news: when your vision comes from God, He’ll give you the strength, wisdom, connections, relationships, and resources to make it happen because He’s “the author and finisher of our faith”.

Sunday Inspiration: Don’t Lose Your Passion

Welcome to “Sunday Inspiration,” a bi-weekly devotional for those seeking spiritual encouragement in the pursuit of their passions. Each post comes from an outside resource (as referenced). I hope these posts will inspire and motivate you in your life and career in addition to our weekly original blog posts. Enjoy!

“He never lost sight of where he was headed.” Heb 12:2 TM

Concerning Jesus, the Bible says: “Because he never lost sight of where he was headed…he could put up with anything along the way: cross, shame, whatever…When you find yourselves flagging in your faith, go over that story again” (vv. 2-3 TM).

It’s your vision that fuels your passion.

Ever notice how God often transforms the worst of sinners into His greatest servants? That’s because they’re passionate, and once that passion is harnessed and redirected they become effective in His kingdom.

Now you understand why the Enemy has tried so hard to destroy you. He knows once you line up your passion with God’s plan, there will be no stopping you.

Passion is spiritual energy; without it you’re as limp as a wet noodle and as bland as hospital food.

So instead of trying to stifle your passion, let God redirect it.

Jesus told the end-age church, “You are neither hot nor cold. I wish that you were one or the other!” (Rev 3:15 NLT). Who is He speaking to? Professing Christians who live, marry, have children, buy cars, accumulate stocks, and do all the things their modern-day counterparts do, but without passion. They were simply going through the motions!

The Bible says, “Taste and see” (Ps 34:8); in other words, step up to the plate and swing the bat! So what if you miss? The fact is you’ll miss for sure if you don’t swing!

Your instinct for self-preservation can rob you of the only chance you may ever get at life.

So if you’re down today, get back up. If you failed, try again. Ask God to rekindle the fires of passion within you.

Sunday Inspiration: How to Know the Next Step in God’s Vision For You

Welcome to “Sunday Inspiration,” a bi-weekly devotional for those seeking spiritual encouragement in the pursuit of their passions. Each post comes from an outside resource (as referenced). “Write the vision and make it plain…that he may run who reads it.” Hab 2:2 NKJV

When God gives you a vision for your life, write it down, keep it before you at all times, and run with it. You say, “But I see no way for it to come to pass.” The Bible says, “The vision is yet for an appointed time…wait for it; because it will surely come” (v. 3 NKJV).

You may not know how to get from where you are right now to where the vision will ultimately take you—but God does. So ask Him to reveal the next step to you. Whether you’re in prison like Joseph, in a soup kitchen in the inner city, or at home taking care of small children, God will fulfill the vision He placed in your heart.

The more you see yourself leading in the boardroom, launching your own business, serving in ministry, writing your first book, or helping others through your gifts, the sooner it will become a reality. Before a vision becomes clear, God gives us glimpses of it—like a picture developing from a soft hue into sharp resolution.

So take your vision and run with it. Let it motivate you to perform to the best of your ability in your present position, while staying in communication with the One who knows and loves you best. Today pray: “Lord, I know that where I am right now, isn’t where You’re taking me. Give me glimpses of Your vision for my future, so that my understanding may grow in accordance with Your timing. Give me patience along the way, and faith to trust that You’re always working for my good. Amen.”

“Where there is no vision, the people perish.” Pr 29:18

What are you planning to do with this New Year? What you set your heart on will determine how you spend your time and energy. And it takes as much effort to live an unfulfilled life as a richly rewarding one. Scientists tell us the human brain has two billion megabytes of capacity, which means we all have lots of room for growth. One of the most rewarding things you can do this year is work to develop your mind. “Where there is no vision [sense of direction], the people perish.” Dissatisfaction doesn’t come from the absence of things but the absence of direction. Too many of us merely exist because we’ve settled for less than God intended. The quality of your life will be determined by your vision and the effort you’re willing to put into fulfilling it. So stop and make a written list of the areas where you’d like to grow this year, then tackle the three or four most important ones. Don’t get discouraged if the one you’re working on doesn’t want to cooperate; nothing great is ever created suddenly. Paul said, “I keep working toward the day when I will finally be all that Christ…wants me to be” (see Philippians 3:14). It’s a process; you have to keep plugging away. Some days it will feel like two steps forward, three steps back. But don’t give up. It’s better to die for something than to live for nothing! And unless you try something beyond what you’ve already mastered, you won’t grow. So what are you waiting for? Life? It’s waiting for you-so get going!
